The Story

Hamilton & Inches commissioned Digital Six to design and build an engaging timeline to mark their 150 year anniversary. The timeline was to feature important milestones throughout it’s history between 1866 to 2016. This included details on their most exciting commissions – from the first ever rugby union Triple Crown Trophy to the famous clock in what’s now the Balmoral Hotel.

Responsive Design
The Challenge
The timeline was also to feature stories from loyal customers who each have their own memories of Hamilton & Inches. Many families have trusted Hamilton & Inches as their jeweller from one generation to the next, so their stories provided interesting and unique content. We developed the timeline on the existing WordPress integration which allowed us to incorporate several elements that would help drive engagement. Users can either scroll down the tile system displayed in chronological order, or click on a decade of their preference from the timeline running down the side. We also implemented a filter system which enables users to view either the history, people or products.
150th Anniversary Timeline
The Solution
The timeline features beautiful imagery which showcases Hamilton & Inches’ exquisite craftsmanship. Visitors are able to expand the size of the photographs for a closer look, which is important since the products have such detailed work. The Timeline was developed on a fully responsive framework, ensuring seamless display of Hamilton & Inches' 150 years of craftsmanship on all device sizes.
It’s also essential that users can share the content across various social media channels. We implemented Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest share buttons to help encourage visitors to share the stories with their friends. All content was marked up with appropriate Open Graph tags which ensures that the content appears correctly when shared. The function for visitors to share their stories needed to be a simple process. We implemented a custom upload form for users to create their own content for the website. They’re able to upload an image, description and associate it with a year if appropriate.

The Personal Touch

The introduction of the timeline has assisted a significant increase in social engagement throughout Hamilton & Inches’ favoured platforms – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. Hamilton & Inches have also had a fantastic response from customers wanting to add to the timeline, with 120+ stories submitted so far. Combined with stories from Hamilton & Inches, this has added unique and highly engaging content to the site.
